We are looking for an enthusiastic graduate to join our Data Science team, in order to optimise our risk strategy and develop credit models that support our business goals.

About Hokodo

We’re an international and diverse team of experienced finance, tech, and data science specialists, based in London and Paris whose goal is to modernise online B2B payments.

Our B2B Buy Now, Pay Later solution enables merchants to offer credit terms to their business customers instantly. Merchants integrated with us see a 40% average increase in revenue... and we’re only just getting started.

We already have a list of stellar clients and are scaling rapidly across Western Europe. We’ve also recently raised $40 million in Series B investment which will help us with our mission of enabling 1 million businesses to access a better way to pay by 2025. We’ve made good progress so far with 32,000 businesses already regularly using Hokodo, but we need your help to take us to the next level!

Who are you?

We’ll let you take a moment to think more philosophically about this, but for us… We are seeking a sharp, energetic and passionate individual. This role is a unique opportunity to learn the nuts and bolts of digital financial services and build a well-rounded skill set alongside a team of experienced business leaders.

We are looking for a motivated graduate with a quantitative degree and keen interest in the fintech or ecommerce environment, who is driven to grow and make a difference.

• Strong quantitative skills and experience of applying data science and machine learning techniques to large data sets

• Experience working with statistical modelling tools such as Python, R, Pandas, Scikit-learn

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills - English is a must have, other European languages could prove useful as well

• A fast learner, entrepreneurial and enthusiastic

• Comfortable in a fast-paced and tech driven startup environment where change is constant

• Organised and methodical with the ability to multi-task and take initiative

• Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

• Good work ethic with strong attention to detail

• Curious, creative and on the lookout for new ideas and methods

How will you make a difference?

As a Data Science intern, you will be part of the Data Science team working alongside the Operations, Credit, and fraud teams to optimise our risk strategy, allowing us to deliver the most affordable product to our customers. There are multiple components to this role.

• Spearheading our expansion into new markets by conducting investigations and leading discussions with data vendors

• Developing our pricing and underwriting algorithms for product launch, built off large population-level data sets

• Extending the pricing/underwriting methodology from UK to Continental Europe

• Developing early insights as our proprietary transactional data sets grow - for example through the application of machine learning to credit default prediction

• Conducting research to understand the predictive power of alternative data sources such as Opencorporates; Sanctions databases; or external providers of sentiment analysis
